SpaceX has shown off a futuristic-looking new extravehicular activity (EVA) spacesuit designed to allow space tourists to venture outside of the company’s Crew Dragon spacecraft in orbit — and it’s decked out in the latest cutting-edge tech.

The suit will make its first appearance during this summer’s Polaris Dawn mission, which will see a crew of four space tourists stepping out of the capsule to go for a spacewalk.

The suit is astonishingly slim compared to the bulky suits we’ve become accustomed to that allow astronauts to venture outside spacecraft like the International Space Station.

The mission calls for new spacesuits introduced this past weekend designed so the can survive the plan to suck out all of the air of the spacecraft and allow Issacman and a crewmate to make the first commercial spacewalk in history.

Flying on the Crew Dragon Resilience again, the mission dubbed Polaris Dawn is the first of up to three flights Issacman wants to fly, culminating in what is supposed to be the first crewed mission of SpaceX’s Starship.

Sierra Space prepares to ship Dream Chaser to Florida

WASHINGTON — Sierra Space says it has wrapped up a series of environmental tests of its Dream Chaser cargo spaceplane at a NASA facility in Ohio and is ready to ship the spacecraft to Florida for a launch later this year.

The company announced May 9 that the Dream Chaser spacecraft, named Tenacity, along with its Shooting Star cargo module, completed a series of shock, vibration and thermal vacuum tests in chambers at NASA’s Neil Armstrong Test Facility, the former Plum Brook Station in Ohio.

With the tests now complete, Dream Chaser and Shooting Star are ready to ship to the Kennedy Space Center, where the spacecraft will undergo some additional acoustic and electromagnetic testing. Workers will also complete installation of elements of its thermal protection system as well as do payload integration for its upcoming flight.

Zachary T.P. Fried, a graduate student in the McGuire group and the lead author of the publication, worked to assemble a puzzle comprised of pieces collected from across the globe, extending beyond MIT to France, Florida, Virginia, and Copenhagen, to achieve this exciting discovery.
