Covid Origin: WHO Probe Team Scientist Says ‘Lab-Leak’ Theory Dropped Under China’s Pressure

Posted by in categories: biotech/medical, entertainment

China has now pushed back on conducting the second phase of probe into Covid origin row. WHO had urged China to share raw data from the earliest cases to revive its probe on Covid origin. The lab-leak theory leading to the pandemic has gained much traction in recent months. China has rejected the idea of another investigation, saying that it disregards common sense and defies science.

BeingAI unveils human-like AI character named Zbee

Posted by in categories: entertainment, robotics/AI

BeingAI is creating virtual beings with artificial intelligence. And its first AI being is a virtual character named Zbee.

Zbee can exist on different platforms and so can interact with people anytime, anywhere, to bring humanness and gamification into digital experiences. Zbee will come with an engaging personality and personal stories. They will offer friendship, entertainment, and mentorship, just like in the movie Her.

The Hong Kong-based BeingAI is the brainchild of founders Jeanne Lim (CEO), Lee Chapman (president), and Amit Kumar Pandey (chief technology officer). Zbee can autonomously interact with people in real time across devices and media platforms, as part of an engaging narrative experience. Most importantly, Zbee has human-defined values that steer toward positive behavior.

After Black Fungus, now ‘Bone Death’ Scare Emerges: New Post Covid Complication Explained

Posted by in categories: biotech/medical, entertainment

It looks like the superbug still has a lot other “surprises” for us. There was the black fungus, now we have bone death(osteonecrosis). And this can reveal itself 1 to 2 months after recovery. A painful goodbye present, perhaps?

After Mucormycosis, a new disease that causes the death of bone tissues is posing new threats for Covid-19 survivors. Three confirmed cases of ‘Bone Death’ have already been reported in Mumbai’s Hinduja Hospital. The 3 patients, under the age of 40, developed the disease 2 months after they were treated for Covid-19.

The argument for a permanent Olympic City

Posted by in categories: biotech/medical, entertainment, finance, internet, policy

Olympic stadiums can be costly and wasteful. Some have argued for a single, more sustainable, location that can be used year after year.

The summer Olympics have been a quadrennial tradition ever since the late 1800s—when modern sports and rivalries freshened up the ancient tradition. Since COVID-19 crashed the schedule for last years’ events, now the world is gearing up again for another round of competition in Tokyo.

Transporting athletes and fans from all over the world and to cities hosting the Olympic games comes with a gigantic carbon footprint, for example, the 2021 London Olympics had an estimated footprint of over 400 thousand tons of CO2 emissions. Constantly building brand-new stadiums every few years that often go unused after the games, with very few exceptions, is also extremely wasteful. The 2016 Rio Olympics whipped up a whopping 3.6 million tonnes of carbon when including all that went into infrastructure. Eerie listicles of decaying stadiums, including Rio’s, litter the internet with costly examples of the wasted hundreds of millions of dollars worth of labor and materials that go into just one site.

This TikTok Lawsuit Is Highlighting How AI Is Screwing Over Voice Actors

Posted by in categories: entertainment, robotics/AI

AI taking over voice acting is just the beginning. Why cant the AI render and generate the game world all by itself. Why cant it generate the models, and actors for the game from scratch; and then use deepfake type animation to animate characters. And, then write an original script for the story. These things are all possible now. Only a matter of time before someone has the idea to put it all together.

Voice actors are rallying behind Bev Standing, who is alleging that TikTok acquired and replicated her voice using AI without her knowledge.

New AI Can Make Actors Look Like They’re Speaking Any Language

Posted by in categories: entertainment, robotics/AI

A new AI dubbing technology syncs actors’ mouths with recorded dialogue to make the experience of watching a movie in an unknown language less jarring.

The challenge: If you want to watch a movie in a language you don’t understand, you have two choices: you can either read subtitles, which can be distracting, or you can watch a dubbed version of the film.

During the dubbing process, voice actors who do speak your language record all of the film’s dialogue in a sound booth. The original dialogue is then replaced with that audio.

Video Game Voice Actors Alarmed

Posted by in categories: entertainment, information science, law, robotics/AI

Part of the problem mirrors the rise of automation in any other industry — performers told Input that they’re nervous that game studios might try to replace them with sophisticated algorithms in order to save a few bucks. But the game modder’s decision also raises questions about the agency that performers have over their own voices, as well as the artistry involved in bringing characters to life.

“If this is true, this is just heartbreaking,” video game voice actor Jay Britton tweeted about the mod. “Yes, AI might be able to replace things but should it? We literally get to decide. Replacing actors with AI is not only a legal minefield but an utterly soulless choice.”

“Why not remove all human creativity from games and use AI…” he added.
